What is Scouting?

Scouts Scouts logo

The Scout Section is for young people, aged between 10 and a half and 14 years. As members of a scout troop, they usually meet once a week with other outdoor activities arranged at weekends and other times during the year.

Scouts are encouraged to take part in an awards scheme through a number of challenges leading up to the Chief Scout's Gold Award.

If you would like to know more about the fun, challenge and adventure of becoming a Scout - just contact the Assistant County Commissioner (ACC) for the Scout Section, who will be pleased to give you details of Troops near you.

The ACC (Scouts) can be contacted by using the Contact form on the website.

Each Scout Troop has its own leadership team who usually meet together with other Troops from their District to coordinate local activities.

Scouts

As a County, the ACC (Scouts) holds regular meetings with the Assistant District Commissioners (ADCs) from each District within Derbyshire. They get together to coordinate events and share best practice. The meetings, held at Alfreton Fire Station, start at 8.00 pm and finish by 9:30 (at the latest!).

Working together in this way helps us to deliver a challenging programme and create a platform for sharing new ideas.

We are also reviewing the Challenge Badges and sharing best practise in how we implement and run them. See the 3 "Challenge" documents in the Links & Downloads section below.

We publish our County Calendar of events following the meeting and this is then updated accordingly.

2009 Results

Winners: 3rd Brampton (571 points)
Runners up: 1st Duffield (564)
Third place: 173rd Derby (553)

With 22 teams taking part including our very first from Girlguiding Derbyshire, we have now nearly reached the maximum number of teams we can accommodate for the competition. Based on the reaction from this year's teams, entry for the 2010 event (10th October) is likely to very popular indeed - limit is 24 teams!

My thanks are extended to all those who organised and ran the activity bases - well over 40 Leaders in all were involved - without all your commitment it just could not have happened.

A very BIG THANKYOU to you all!
Also to Drum Hill staff for their support and help with transporting lots of equipment around the site.

Dragon Awards

Dave was pleased to present a total of 10 Bronze Awards to members of the 3rd Wingerworth Scout Troop from Chesterfield District at their Sub-Camp at Peak 2010.

This was one of the first Troops to gain the award in Derbyshire back in 2005 but this was the largest number at any one time. I understand some are now on their way to their Silver - well done to all.

We were well pleased to congratulate 52 more Award holders at Peak 2010.

Mark Tarry, the Deputy Chief Commissioner for England, said how pleased he was to present the awards and thanked their parents and Leaders for their encouragement to all the award holders.

The awards ceremony was held in the International Marquee at Chatsworth with over 150 gathered to mark the occasion.
