We have so far run four walks covering the county from Hathersage to Gradbach. Read moreHillwalking ran one of the bases at this year’s Rampage. Scouts had to locate 8 pieces of a 2D Rubik cube and create the cube in 30mins. 24 teams with mixed results – some struggling to complete the puzzle and others unable to locate the pieces. Most teams manage to SMASH it in record times. Great day – great teamwork.
Read moreHill Walking ran two full days of Geocaching at Activation this year – for four sessions on Saturday and Sunday. Scouts this year had to look for World Cup flags in some pretty hard places. They also had to work out the flags to the countries playing in the cup. The weather was very hot and we were all sweltering by the end of the day.
Read moreHill Walking Navigation Training The Hill Walking Scout Activity Support Unit (SASU) is running two 1-day navigation training sessions on Sunday 29th July 2018 and Saturday 29th September 2018. Each course will be held at Drum Hill, starting 9:30am until 4:00pm. The training session is aimed at leaders, Explorers, DoE scheme participants who are beginners at map reading, or who wish to refresh their skills and build their experience and confidence levels in navigation. Read moreScouts took part today in the Foxwell Challenge at Drum Hill. Three Districts from Derby competed in 8 events including GeoCaching. In the GeoCaching event, they had to locate 8 caches in half an hour. Some were easier to find than others, only 5 teams got full marks. Lovely day – lots of fun.
