Be Prepared for Paddle Sports
To participate in kayaking, open canoeing and rafting, participants will need to be confident in water and able to swim 50m whilst wearing a buoyancy aid. Bell boating is great for those less confident in water and non-swimmers (as well as those just wanting a great time on the water!) – please let us know in advance if you have any non-swimmers or participants with additional needs so we can best accommodate them.
To help you prepare for this activity, here is a short list of things you may need to bring/wear or prepare for, before you turn up for your activity:
For all water activities, you must:
• Wear clothing appropriate for the time of year that can get wet, including an old pair of trainers.
• Bring a complete change of clothing and footwear.
• A towel.
• Any refreshments e.g. warm drink / snack
• NOTE - wellies, crocks and flip-flops are not allowed on this activity.
When you book an activity with us, you will be sent a booking confirmation including details of what you will need to bring or wear.
Paddle Sports Location and Costs
Primarily, activities are run out of our base at Midland Canoe Club in Darley Abbey, Derby.
Due to access restrictions and the transport of large amounts of equipment, we can only run activities at other locations for larger events and by prior negotiation.
Activities cost £5 per participant with a minimum fee of £60.
Sessions run on Monday evenings and alternate Tuesday and Friday evenings, on a first come, first served basis. We also run a monthly Sunday afternoon session. An email detailing available dates will be sent to Section Leaders at the start of the season and advertised on our Facebook page.
